Sara Aimée Smiseth

Born in Oslo, Norway, Sara Aimée Smiseth pursued her career at the Norwegian Academy of Music and The Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She has distinguished herself with her unique combination of both verbal and musical ‘storytelling’ — weaving the history and relevance of her subjects into her virtuosic piano concerts. Since she finished her studies in 2014 she has toured regularly with her narrational concerts both home and abroad.

In the past year, Sara has toured in the United States, she has been a pianist in residence at Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen, and has released a critically acclaimed debut album "Backer Grøndahl - Piano Works".

Sara Aimée Smiseth is from Haugerud in Groruddalen in Oslo. She completed her master's degree in exercise at NMH in 2013 with Einar Steen Nøkleberg and Einar Henning Smebye as teachers. She also has a year on exchange at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire in Brussels, a bachelor's degree in musicology and a year's study in interdisciplinary gender studies from UiO. Since finishing her studies, she has toured with self-produced concert performances throughout Norway, as well as Sweden, the USA and Canada.

The concert performances stand out as a unique combination of piano playing at a high level and live oral presentation, which gives the audience a very special encounter with the music. Sara has performed several times on the radio as a pianist and narrator, and at the Opera's tenth anniversary she performed parts of a concert performance about Edvard Grieg on NRK's live TV programme. In the summer of 2022, she was "Pianist of the Week" at Troldhaugen.

In 2022, she also carried out her second US tour, this time with Agathe Backer Grøndahl on the program. In the spring of 2022, she also released her first solo record, to good reviews in several of the country's biggest newspapers.

As a performer, Sara has led the audience through several large concerts and events, including on the main stage in the Opera and in the University's Aula. She also creates tailor-made concerts for companies and business, and has had commissions for, among others, Det norske Veritas, Nordea and the Ministry of Transport as well as organizations such as the Association for Heart-Sick Children and the Church's City Mission.

On a daily basis, she works freelance, but is also associated with the Norwegian Opera & Ballet as a mediator and pianist. There she has duties as a rehearser and accompanist, gives introductory lectures to performances, works as a tour guide, and also performs at larger events and for the Opera's partners. In 2020, she has participated in several digital dissemination projects, and from 2021 she has been on tour for the Opera under the auspices of Den kulturelle skolesekken.

Sara is also a widely used choral accompanist and repeater, and has played with, among others, Det norske Solistkor, Schola Cantorum and Oslo Domkor. In the years 2012-15, she was the regular pianist for The Norwegian Student Choir, and accompanied them, among other things, on tour in Japan in November 2015. From 2010 to 2019, she was the regular accompanist and repetiteur for Grex Vocalis and worked on a large number of concerts with them , including their closing concert at the Opera where she was both accompanist and emcee. She was a singer in Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening 2005-21 and has often been used as the choir's accompanist, and has participated in two CD recordings with them for Lawo Classics. She is also regularly hired by the Norwegian Choral Association for events such as Singing Day, KorCruise and the Summer Choir School.
